Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show kicks off with more than 1,000 exhibitors

Event runs through Monday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 57th annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show kicked off Thursday and will showcase about $4 billion worth of vessels and merchandise from more than 1,000 exhibitors.

The event is the world's largest in-water boat show and generates millions of dollars in marine commerce and brings an economic boost to local businesses.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler issued a statement in a news release Thursday and said that more than 130,000 people are expected to attend the event.

The mayor said people are advised that traffic will be impacted in the area, especially State Road A1A between Southeast 17th Street and East Sunrise Boulevard, as well as Sunrise Boulevard from Northeast 20th Avenue to Bayview Drive.

Seiler said parking will be available to accommodate the event's attendees. However, selling parking on private property is prohibited.

The boat show runs through Monday.
