Starting Jan. 5, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Rickenbacker Causeway Park Operations will premiere the new "Thursday Night Food Truck Round-Up." Guests will enjoy a wide variety of culinary treats served up by popular gourmet food truck vendors, along with picturesque views of Biscayne Bay.
Note: The event will be held every Thursday (weather permitting), with the exception of these block out dates: Feb. 16 (Progressive Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail) and March 23 & 30 (Miami Open Tennis Tournament).

The DRI Walk for Diabetes & Family Fun Day

All across South Florida, thousands of people will participate in the DRI Walk for Diabetes & Family Fun Day Presented by Walgreens. Join other Walgreens customers, employees, family members, friends and neighbors to raise funds for diabetes research. There will be a 5k and 10K walk through Marlins Park, Kid Super Hero Fun Run, health fair and Marlins baseball ticket giveaways. All funds raised will benefit the life-saving work of the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI).

Bike MS: Breakaway to Key Largo 2017

This two day fundraising cycling event takes you from Miami to Key Largo and back. There are multiple route options, all of which are well supported with fully-stocked rest stops every 8-12 miles, a great lunch stop each day and safety provided by medical personnel, HAM radio operators, law enforcement and motorcycle escorts. The purpose is to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system. Last year, Bike MS raised over one million dollars.

Carnaval Miami – Carnaval on the Mile

This year's Carnaval on the Mile will feature two stages of simultaneous concerts of jazz, funk, rock and Afro-Caribbean samba. Artists include Humming House, Con Brio, Red Baratt and others. There will also be art exhibitions by more than 100 artists and “Cork & Fork,” the food and wine event returning for a second edition.

Designed to build character while providing the opportunity to engage in physical activity, the Honor Games focus on middle-school aged kids and takes a new approach to how they treat one another by encouraging self-love, honor and respect through physical competition. The Games, a Ninja Warrior meets Spartan Race-type obstacle course, include water, soap, ice baths, foam pits and other unique elements mixed into a course of inflatable obstacles. Each obstacle represents a unique value from The New Guy Code, including honor, obedience, nobility, ownership and respect. Competitors must challenge themselves not only physically, but also mentally with a series questions designed specifically for that value and particular obstacle.

The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana invites visitors from around the globe to the largest Hispanic street festival in the Southeastern United States during the 40th Annual Calle Ocho Festival. Little Havana will vibrate with 12 dedicated stages of simultaneous concerts from Latin legends, including Willy Chirino, Albita, Natty Natasha, Millie Quesada, Los Adolescentes and more. There will also be a first of its kind croquette eating contest along with hundreds of international food kiosks.

In an effort to engage children and families in fun, educational, outdoor experiences, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department has launched the new Miami EcoAdventures™ kids’ program “Read and Explore,” a collaboration with Miami-Dade Public Library System. The free monthly program debuts with a reading of Eric Carle’s award-winning children’s book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Kids will enjoy story-themed crafts, a caterpillar and butterfly hunt and butterfly garden exploration. Each month, the park will feature a reading of a specially selected nature-themed children’s book.

Humane Society of Broward County – Walk for the Animals

This is the Humane Society of Broward County’s largest fundraiser. The 1.25 mile walk through beautiful Fort Lauderdale attracts thousands of animal lovers each year. There will be a bounce house and face painting for the younger crowd. Dogs can receive the star treatment with red carpet photos courtesy of Little’s Photography and a dip in the doggie pools all while their owners enjoy free pancakes from IHOP and live entertainment. Plus, Local 10’s own Jacey Birch will emcee the event.
