Fraudsters target Florida Bar members with threatening emails

Authorities say this is second time scammers hijack Florida Bar's name

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a consumer alert to members of the Florida Bar after discovering that crooks are targeting Bar members with threatening emails.

Pretending to be from the Florida Attorney General's Office, con artists are telling the members that their business is being sued by the state.

A link in the email, purported to direct the recipient to the filed complaint, instead might actually deploy malware.

If you receive such an email, do not click on the link and immediately report it to the Florida Attorney General's Office by calling 866-9-NO-SCAM or visiting MyFloridaLegal.com.

This is the second time the Florida Bar's name has been hijacked by scammers in recent months.

The Attorney General's Office says a similar imposter scam incorporated the name of the Florida Bar's president to target potential victims.
