Eco-Hero finalist: Meet Daelyn Einhorn

The winner of our Local 10 Eco-Hero contest wins a wild adventure trip

This is the second of five Local 10 Eco-Hero finalists that are competing to win a Eco-Adventure to the Canadian Rockies with Kristi Krueger and Zoo Miami's Ron Magill. After the five finalists are introduced, the public will have an opportunity to vote on their favorite

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. - At 13-years-old, Daelyn Einhorn has already written and produced her own public service announcements, that's how enthusiastic this 7th grader is about conservation and protecting the environment.

"I always loved animals and wanted to protect animals and that's how i really got into it," says Einhorn.

And got into it she did!

Today, Daelyn is the founder of the Junior Naturalist Earthkeepers Club at the Biscayne Nature Center. Einhorn is also the center's junior ambassador, volunteering and helping expose more kids to the magic of Florida's marine life.

"There are different events," Einhorn explains. "There's the seagrass adventure where we go into the ocean with nets and we each have a partner and we scrape the bottom of the ocean with our nets and see what we pull up and the we pull up marine life and it's really cool."

Daelyn works closely with the nature center's director Theadora Long organizing events for South Florida students.

Kids take nature walks, clean up the beaches and get up close and personal with sea life.

Daelyn raises money so that children from underserved neighborhoods can also come to the center.

"Because we have to learn about nature to protect it," Einhorn says, "So kids learn about fish and the marine life and we learn how to protect it."
