Broward County Public Schools to hire hundreds of teachers

Scores of people attend recruitment fair at Broward County Convention Center

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ Administrators and principals from hundreds of schools throughout Broward County converged in Fort Lauderdale Thursday in hopes of finding hundreds of new teachers.

Teaching candidates from across the country came to the recruitment fair with resumes in hand at the Broward County Convention Center.

"This offers an opportunity to have everybody in one spot, be able to go around and talk to each principal and let them know about themselves and try to find that right fit for them and for the principal," Susan Rockelman from Broward County Public Schools said.

Jessica Moses came to the fair with hopes of getting her first teaching job in South Florida, and she landed that dream job after interviewing with three principals.Ā

"I am very lucky to have gotten a job with so many people here," Moses said. "It really is an exhilarating feeling (and) something that I've worked toward for my entire life."

The sixth largest school district in the country stresses that it does not have a teaching shortage. With 14,000 teachers already in tow, they are just adding more.

"About 1,200 to start off the school year," Rockelman said.
