Christopher Columbus High School's TV program receives national accolades

Jenise Fernandez to emcee school's 4th annual Media Excellence Awards

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. ā€“ Local 10 News congratulates Christopher Columbus High School's Emmy and national award-winning student-run television station, CCNN Live.

The students will host the fourth annual Media Excellence Awards on Saturday, March 11. The Golden Globes-style ceremony will honor South Florida journalists with awards in nine categories.

Among those nominated from Local 10 are Eric Yutzy, Victor Oquendo, Trent Aric and Nicole Perez.Ā Local 10 is also nominated for local news station of the year, and Jenise Fernandez, a past CCNN Live award recipient for best traffic reporter, has been tapped to emcee the ceremony.

The MEAs draws more than 300 guests to include TV personalities, media executives, Columbus alumni and family members. The MEAs was created by CCNN Live staff to recognize local news journalists who inspire them to produce quality programming.

CCNN Live is the Student Television Network's back-to-back national championship team in high school broadcast journalism (2015-16), an accomplishment that no other high school in the nation can claim. The team also won best high school daily news show in the nation for the second year in a row, per the National Scholastic Press Association.

The MEAs also celebrate their accomplishments and raises funds for their travel expenses so they can continue to compete at the state and national level.
