'Dancing' stars rehearse in South Florida
William Levy, Cheryl Burke partner up for show
With just a week to go before the premiere of "Dancing With the Stars," Miami native and telenovela star William Levy and his partner, Cheryl Burke, are perfecting their moves for his big debut.
Burke and Levy were rehearsing in South Florida on Monday. Even though Levy is getting used to his new gig -- and his new dancing shoes -- the telenovela star is getting ready to take center stage.
Levy's appearance in the Jennifer Lopez video "I'm Into You" was an introduction to the U.S. media, and now the actor is ready to show off his Latin moves.
"She is telling me the whole time, 'This is not a dancing club or salsa or whatever. This is ballroom,'" Levy said. "It's completely different."
Ballroom dancing is new for the actor, and for the past five days, he has been crunching in as many ballroom moves as he can during rehearsals.
"For the premiere, we have one dance, which is cha-cha, and no one gets eliminated the first week," Burke said. "That's what makes the show so interesting is the time crunch and the stress and to see if you guys are going to have chemistry or not, so it keeps it fun."
The real fun begins next week when the couple cha-chas their way to Hollywood for the big show.
"This is cool. This is something new in my life, in my career, so as long as you do something for fun and you have fun doing it," Levy said.
Burke won her first championship with Drew Lachey, from the boy band 98 Degrees, in the show's second season. She earned a second Mirrorball Trophy with retired football star Emmitt Smith in season 3.
"Dancing With the Stars" premieres next Monday night on Local 10.
