The 2012 Miami Art Museum Ball, Saturday, December 8, 2012, will commemorate the Museum’s 29 historical years at Miami-Dade Cultural Center in anticipation of next year’s move to Museum Park. In December 2013, the Museum will reopen as Pérez Art Museum Miami in a new Herzog & de Meuron-designed facility alongside Biscayne Bay. The 2012 MAM Ball chairs are Patricia Papper, Patricia and William Kleh, and Marcella and Daniel Novela. Dinner will be served in the upper-level gallery featuring a menu created by celebrity chef Hedy Goldsmith and inspired by the new Museum’s waterfront bistro. The acclaimed pastry chef will also create a signature dessert bar for the event. The gallery will be transformed into an environment created by New Work Miami 2013 artist Emmett Moore, known for his innovative experimentation between the fields of art and design. Following dinner, guests will dance the night away under the stars on the magically-transformed outdoor plaza as Crash the Ball attendees join the party. New Work Miami 2013, a salute to Miami’s art community, will be on view in the Museum’s lower-level gallery. Held annually since 1983, the MAM Ball caps off Art Basel Miami Beach and is attended by art collectors, artists and cultural leaders both locally and internationally. The MAM Ball is the Museum’s main annual fundraiser. Proceeds from the event sustain the Museum’s exhibition and education programs.

Parodi Lecture in Philosophy of Art: “Currency, Value, Hype”
Sunday, December 9, 2012 / 11:30am – 1pm, doors open 11am
Miami Art Museum and University of Miami, Department of Philosophy present Martha Buskirk, Professor of art history and criticism at Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, Massachusetts. Despite the astonishing volume of activity in the realm of contemporary art, the subject itself defies easy categorization. Tangible objects may still have a certain edge in the marketplace, but that is less true in other contexts where programing often centers on ephemeral gestures and their reception. How have recent situation-based works transformed expectations about art? To what degree do these simply draw attention to the larger role of art as a social nexus?
Lecture admission free and open to the public.Light refreshments following lecture.
