Bravo's taking a cult classic title and giving it a fresh coat of paint.
According to a statement, the network is planning to redevelop the 1988 movie "Heathers" as a scripted TV drama.
The character Veronica, which in the film was played by Winona Ryder, is now returning home to Sherwood 20 years later with a teen daughter of her own. As Veronica soon discovers, her daughter doesn't have to deal with the "Heathers" - but she does have to face their offspring, the "Ashleys."
Jenny Bicks of "The Big C" will write and executive produce the redeveloped "Heathers" with Mark Rizzo.
Bicks and Rizzo's project is just one of five dramas that Bravo's announced it has in development, part of an effort to bring original scripted programming to the network next year.
The shows include one about a pair of siblings who rent out the Upper West Side apartment in which their deceased mother had an 18-year affair to other unfaithful married folk, and another about an Upper East Side family that falls into ruin after the dissolution of a Ponzi scheme.
