Kelly Clarkson hits right note with nat'l anthem
Fans say singer hit right notes while showing restraint
Pop singer Kelly Clarkson is joined by members of the Indianapolis Children's Choir to sing the National Anthem before the start of Super Bowl XLVI Sunday.
We've all witnessed the ways a singer's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" can go horribly wrong, but on Sunday, original "American Idol" Kelly Clarkson was praised for singing it right.
Clarkson's fans noted that she showcased her show-stopping vocals while maintaining clarity and exercising some restraint. Immediately, an audience usually ready to critique had nothing but applause for the star.
Musicians like Jason Aldean, Pink and Chris Daughtry were wowed, with Daughtry tweeting Sunday, "I dare to say that @kelly_clarkson just sang THE best national anthem of all time!"
Pink added, "Kelly Clarkson KiLleD the national anthem. Show em' how it's done girl!!!!"
Purists might be disappointed that she still allowed room for interpretation, but they still might nonetheless agree with Piers Morgan's take on the performance: "Kelly Clarkson 1, Steven Tyler 0," he tweeted Sunday.
In January, Tyler faced harsh criticism after he performed the national anthem at the AFC championship football game.
