Cleveland Orchestra Miami opens season this weekend

Rodrigo's 'Concierto de Aranjuez' debuts at Adrienne Arsht Center

MIAMI – This weekend the Cleveland Orchestra will open its 2014-15 Miami season at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts with Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez."

Described as "distinctively Spanish" and "elegant," Rodrigo's concerto for classical guitar and orchestra is said to be inspired by the gardens of the Palacio Real de Aranjuez.

The performance runs Friday to Saturday at the Knight Concert Hall. Principal guest conductor Giancarlo Guerrero will lead the Cleveland Orchestra and Miloš Karadagli? on guitar.

Karadagli? will perform for Miami-Dade County Public Schools fourth-grade students Thursday as part of an education concert.

Then on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28, Franz Welser-Möst will conduct the program "Fate and Freedom: Music of Beethoven and Shostakovich."

On Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, Welser-Möst will conduct Mahler's Sixth Symphony.

The Cleveland Orchestra Miami season closes the weekend of March 27-28 with Orff's "Carmina Burana," "a giant cantata about love, lust, the pleasures of drinking and the heightened moods evoked by springtime -- conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero."

This is the ninth season of Cleveland Orchestra Miami and is co-presented by the Adrienne Arsht Center and the Miami Music Association.
