FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – It was a hot, sweaty night of live music at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, June 10th when Gogol Bordello pulled into town.
The concert was SOLD-OUT, and you could see that the moment you made it through the door! It was shoulder to shoulder everywhere you could see. It was hard enough to fight your way through the crowd to find a decent place to watch the bands, let alone elbow your way through the mob at the bar.

Producer-musician Walter Schreifels opened the show but it was the #2 and #3 bands on the bill that most fans were there to see.
British singer-songwriter Frank Turner had a lot of fans in the audience, and he did not disappoint! He and his whip-tight band, The Sleeping Souls, whipped the crowd into an even greater frenzy! Turner was big on fan participation; even bringing up a fan to help out with harmonica on one song! He also went out into the crowd to sing another tune, much to the delight of the fans! Judging from the number of people I saw singing along and dancing (often with their eyes closed) Frank Turner put on the show they were hoping for.
Things got even crazier when the headliners hit the stage! Gogol Bordello are known for their fast-paced, high-energy concerts and they certainly lived up to the hype! Frontman Eugene Hutz had the crowd going from the minute he came out onstage. The floor of the hall turned into a giant, writhing mass of humanity; with fans pogoing and dancing along to every song as they shouted the lyrics at the top of their lungs! The band’s infectious energy drove the crowd into an even greater frenzy. Gogol Bordello plays what they call “Gypsy Punk”; a mixture of Eastern European sounds combined with punk rock and dub. One band member plays a violin while another rocks an accordion! It certainly makes for one of the most unique sounds you have ever heard and Gogol Bordello are experts at using it to turn concerts into life-changing experiences for their fans.
It was a terrific night of live music and everyone left feeling exhausted but exhilarated. The next time you have a chance to see any of the bands on this bill, take it! You won’t be disappointed!
