African Heritage Cultural Arts Center hosts watch party

MIAMI ā€“ The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center held a watch party Sunday for the Oscars.Ā

"Moonlight" was a favorite for those who attended the party, partly because several scenes were shot inside the center.

"It's really amazing to see, you know, my kids go to the movies and be able to see my own kids in the movie," Tangie Sands said.

Sands' three children played extras in "Moonlight."

The crowd was treated to an early victory when "Moonlight" actor MahershalaĀ Ali won best supporting actor for his role in the movie.Ā

Later in the night, when the movie won for best adapted screenplay, the crowd cheered and then got loud again when the movie took home the best picture award.Ā
