Miss Florida USA 2014 contestants prepare for finals

DAVIE, Fla. – The 71 girls competing for the Miss Florida USA 2014 crown on Friday prepared for the finals.

"I think we're all anxious to set foot on that stage and show them what we got," said Emmie Kivell, Miss Hialeah USA.

"We're trying to stay calm backstage and try to keep the chaos at a minimum," added Cassie McFarland, Miss Ft. Walton Beach USA.

Last year's winners showed the girls how to handle the pressure.

"After you change out of it (your dress), it's on the floor, people are tripping over it, it's chaotic backstage," said Miss Florida USA Teen 2013 Brianne Bailey.

"There's hairspray everywhere so be prepared," added Miss Florida USA 2013 Michelle Aguirre.

Some dresses weigh 20 pounds. Because there's no room for hair and make-up professionals, the girls must do their own.

"These are all eyeliners. How many eyeliners does a girl really need?" said Aguirre. "You never know."
