'Alien' returns to theaters in advance of upcoming sequel

April 26 screening scheduled at select Regal Cinemas in South Florida

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Fans of the science-fiction horror classic "Alien" will get to relive the terror on the silver screen before the next chapter in the space saga comes to theaters next month.

Twentieth Century Fox will rerelease the 1979 original April 26 in select Regal Cinemas movie theaters.

"Alien" was directed by Ridley Scott and stars Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley in the role that made her famous. Scott helmed the 2012 prequel "Prometheus" and its upcoming sequel.

The worldwide, one-night screening is part of the movie studio's "Alien Day" celebration.

April 26 is a studio promotional gimmick signifying LV-426, the terraforming colony that was attacked by a horde of the space creatures in the 1986 sequel "Aliens."

Participating theaters include the Regal Cinemas in Kendall and Royal Palm Beach.

"Alien: Covenant" opens May 19 in theaters everywhere.
