Director shares concept art for 'Bad Boys 3'

Joe Carnahan reveals scenes from upcoming movie on Twitter

Bad Boys 3 will be released in February 2017.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – By this time next February, Miami's favorite "Bad Boys" will be back on the silver screen.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are expected to reprise their roles as Miami police officers Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett in the third installment of the buddy-cop film series.

Sony Pictures announced release dates for not one, but two "Bad Boys" sequels last summer. Now it appears that "Smokin' Aces" director Joe Carnahan has been tapped to replace Michael Bay at the helm of "Bad Boys 3."

Carnahan recently shared concept art for the next "Bad Boys" movie -- which still displays the Roman numerals, like its predecessor -- on Twitter.

The art appears to display an intense expressway shootout -- presumably the Dolphin Expressway, if Carnahan's tweet "Duel on the 836" is any indicator -- involving a motorcycle and an explosion.

Although it hasn't officially been announced, the art is a good indicator that Carnahan is on board for part three.

Smith said in a BBC radio interview earlier this month that he saw Lawrence recently, and they will both be "definitely doing another one."

The first "Bad Boys" was released in 1995. A sequel was released in 2003.

Written by David Guggenheim, "Bad Boys 3" is scheduled to be released Feb. 17, 2017. A fourth film is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2019.
