Newly released video shows Nick Carter altercation at Key West bar

Backstreet Boys singer faces civil lawsuit stemming from January incident

KEY WEST, Fla. ā€“ Surveillance video obtained Monday by Local 10 News shows the altercation involving Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter at a Key West bar in January.

The video shows Carter stumbling into the Hog's Breath Saloon on the evening of Jan. 13.

Minutes later, Carter, who is wearing a white hat, and his friend are seen being escorted out of the bar after they were refused service and asked to leave.

The video shows Carter falling over. Then words were exchanged and a physical altercation ensued.

"He should stand up for what he did," Mark DiCowden, an attorney representing bouncer Skylar Carden, 21, in a civil lawsuit, told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden. "He should be accountable and that he's not above the law just because of his fame and fortune."

Carter's friend can be seen swinging at bar employees.

DiCowden said his client was violently attacked, choked and punched.

"He has his hand around Carden's throat," DiCowden said, pointing to a still frame in the video.

Seiden knocked on the front door of Carter's Key West home Monday, but nobody answered. That house is now on the market for $1.2 million.

"This is one more celebrity that they think because of their status that can control people, they can control places (and) that they don't have to respect the law or others," DiCowden said.

Carter has entered a plea of not guilty.

The manager said Carter has been banned for life.

Carter's attorneys did not reply to a request for comment.Ā
