ABC anchor to head back to work after bone marrow transplant

"Good Morning America's" Robin Roberts will be returning to the anchor desk in the new year.

The announcement was made Friday on GMA by weather anchor Sam Champion.  The morning show aired a compilation video of some its best moments in 2012 and ended with the big surprise.

"What an amazing year gang, what an amazing year to be a part of, and guess what?  2013 is 'Robin Comes Home!'," Champion said.

Roberts took to Twitter to thank her co-anchors and her fans.

"I love you too   & my entire   family  is right...I'll be back in 2013! Light Love Power Presence XO," Roberts Tweeted.

Saturday marks 100 days since Roberts underwent a bone marrow transplant to treat her MDS, myelodysplastic syndrome.  She has had a delicate immune system every since and has been resting at home.

Roberts' exact return date has not been revealed.
