Underwater skeleton pranksters come forward

Diver described scene as an 'underwater tea party'

Cienega Springs, AZ (KPHO) -- – A Phoenix couple has come forward claiming responsibility for the two fake skeletons placed in a river in western Arizona, The Associated Press reports.

The couple has yet to identify themselves publicly but decided to come forward after seeing the media attention given to the prank.

The AP reports that the La Paz County Sheriff's Office doesn't plan on filing any charges.

The skeletons, named Bernie and Bernadette, could be staying on the bottom of the river. Authorities are saying the props don't pose any threats to lake-goers and that they could be used as a geocache, the AP story said.

The skeletons -- which were found tied to rocks sitting in lawn chairs -- were initially spotted by a snorkeler.
