WESTON -- Four Weston middle school students were transported to a hospital after ingesting an energy drink at school Wednesday afternoon. At 12:09 p.m., Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to a report of several students having reactions after trying an energy drink at Falcon Cove Middle School. The four students, ages 14 and 13, complained of sweating, dizziness, lightheadedness and said their hearts were racing. They told firefighter-paramedics that they had all "taken sips from a small bottle" labeled Redline.
The four were transported to Memorial West Hospital in Pembroke Pines by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue. They are being kept for observation. The drink is not sold at the school.People filing online reports have said they suffered from convulsions and blacked out from the energy drink, but the drink cautions that the concentrated drink should be ingested in small doses, and has precautions listed on the label advising against use by persons under 18 years of age.
