MIAMI-DADE, Fla. -

The One and Only Local 10 News' latest Make a Difference project was an extreme makeover that took two years and had the help of many generous members of our community.

Opening day: Architect Kona Gray

THEY'VE BEEN NOTICING AN UNUSUAL A LARGER FISH SWIMMING NEAR THE SHORE. AND RIGHT NOW AT 4:00, EXCITEMENT IS BREWING AT GRATIGNY PLATEAU PARK AS CREWS SET UP ALL THE EQUIPMENT FOR TODAY'S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED GRAND OPENING CEREMONY. WE'VE BEEN WORK OKAY THIS PROJECT FOR YEARS, AND TODAY IT'S FINALLY BECOMINGAN A REALITY. AND OUR OWN CALVIN HUGHES IS IN NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE TAKING IN ALL THIS EXCITEMENT. LET'S SEE HOW YOU THE LOOKS. Reporter: IN ABOUT AN HOUR THIS IS GOING TO BE A MAJOR BLOCK PARTY HERE AT GRATIGNY 93. WE'RE TALKING ABOUT LOTS OF ENTERTAINMENT AND A LOT OF SPEAKER'S AS WELL, AND RIGHT BEHIND ME IS ONE OF THE FEATURES OF GRATIGNY PLATEAU PARK. THIS IS THE TODDLER PLAYGROUND. IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE THAT ALL OF THIS USED TO BE THREE VACANT LOTS WHICH BASICALLY WAS A DUMP SITE. ONE RESIDENT TOLD ME TODAY THAT THIS IS REALLY THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, A BRAND NEW PARK, GRATIGNY PLATEAU PARK, AND THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO HELPED MAKE THIS POSSIBLE. IN FACT, THERE WERE SO MANY DONORS AND VOLUNTEERS, BUT THERE WAS ONE PERSON WHO UNDER THE THIS ENTIRE LOT IN SORT OF HIS DREAM, HIS BABY, IF YOU WILL. HE'S THE ARCHITECT OF THIS, HIS NAME IS KONA GRAY. AS A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT, KONA GRAY IS A VISUAL AR US THE WHO USES THE ELEMENTS FOUND IN NATURE TO BRING OUT THE BEST IN HUMAN NATURE. BEFORE HE TOOK TO THE DRAWING BOARD, GRAY MET WITH THE FAMILIES WHO LIVED MERE GRATIGNY PLATEAU PARK AND LISTENED TO THEIR IDEAS. IT CAME TOGETHER. WE TOOK THEIR IDEAS AND MELDED THEM WITH OURS, AND IT'S TRULY A COMMUNITY PARK. THE OUTCOME, A PARK SHAPED LOOK A FLOWER SIGNIFY FYING NOW LIFE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FOR GENERATIONS TO COME. GRATIGNY PLATEAU PARK FEATURES A PLAYGROUND, WALKING PATHS, FITNESS STATIONS, BENCHES, AND A BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY GARDEN. IT'S A FINE AND ENDURING EXAMPLE OF GRAY'S COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY. WE HAD A LOT OF IDEAS AND DISCUSSIONS ABOUT WHERE THING SHOULD BE LOCATED. IN THIS AREA WE HAVE THE MOST CHILDREN SO WE DECIDED THAT THAT'S WHERE THE ROOTS SHOULD BE. IP GROWS FROM THE ROOTS TO THE STEM AND FINALLY THE FLOWER. GRAY'S VISION WAS THE SEED PLANTED BY A COLLABORATION OF PRIVATE AND PUBLIC INDUSTRIES THAT BLOSSOMED INTO A BREATHTAKING PARK. CONSIDERING WHAT IT WAS BEFORE, THIS IS GOING TO BE MAGICAL. THE TRANSFORMATION HAS BEEN WONDERFUL FOR US. IT'S A JOY TO DO WHAT WE DO. BUT REALLY SEEING PEOPLE EMBRACE A FINISHED PRODUCT AND A FINISHED PROJECT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO US. THAT'S WHAT MAKES US LOVE WHAT WE DO. Reporter: WEATHER PERMITTING THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT EVENT TODAY. WE'RE REALLY HOPING THAT IT DOESN'T STORM. BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT PLAYGROUND FOR THE TODDLERS HERE. THIS IS JUST ONE OF THREE LOTS THAT THEY ARE GOING TO GET TO PLAY ON. THERE ARE TWO MORE THAT I PLAN TO SHOW YOU COMING UP IN THE NEXT HOUR AND A HALF, AND WE HOPE TO GET BACK TO YOU VERY SOON BUT AGAIN, WEATHER PERMITTING, WE'RE HOPING ALL OF THIS WILL TAKE PLACE. THIS IS REALLY COOL, AND I'M SURE THE KIDS ARE JEALOUS THAT I GET TO PLAY ON THEIR PLAYGROUND BEFORE THEY DO. SO COMING UP AT 4:30 WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM MILLER CONSTRUCTION. THEY WERE REALLY THE COMPANY THAT TOOK THE LEAD ON ALL OF THIS TO MAKE ALL OF THIS

Gratigny Plateau Park, 885 NW 117 St., is a serene haven that residents can now be proud of.  Residents now have access to fitness stations, a toddler playground, walking paths, benches and a butterfly garden.

In a public and private partnership, Tom and Jesse Miller of Miller Construction Company took the project under their wing.

The partnership included more than two dozen other contributors and funding from the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond Program, Community Development Block Grant and Park Impact Fees.
