MIAMI -- Thirty-six million Americans make running their exercise of choice. Connie Sol is one of them."It puts me in a zone where I can work things out in my head," Sol said. "It's a beautiful thing. I just love to run."But the pleasure comes with pain. It's estimated 85 percent of runners suffer some form of injury. For years Sol ran in pain until she discovered a method of running called "Pose."
Renowned Russian running coach Nicholas Romanov developed the Pose Method. He says it can reduce impact on the knee joint by 30 to 50 percent developed the Pose Method.Romanov says less impact means less injury."I've trained the British team for over five years now and not one member has had an injury running the Pose Method," said Romanov.Romanov has created a series of exercises to help runners learn the technique. The key is not to run heel-to-toe but to roll off the ball of the foot."One of the biggest things we tell runners is don't run with your heel up," said Sol. "Relax your heel and you'll be fine."There are also Pose Method techniques for other activities like walking and cross-country skiing. It may take a while to get the hang of the Pose Method, but athletes say once they do, they're doing what they love pain free.To learn more about the Pose Method and find out about monthly group sessions with Dr. Romanov, click here.
