Precautionary boil-water notice issued for North Miami Beach, city's distribution areas

Order will remain in effect for at least 48 hours

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A precautionary boil-water notice was issued Wednesday for North Miami Beach, along with areas the city services, which include Miami Gardens, Sunny Isles Beach, Golden Beach and Haulover Beach.

The order comes after water pressure throughout the distribution system dropped below 20 pounds per square inch for about one minute due to a momentary power outage at the Norwood Water Treatment Plant, a media release said.

As a precaution all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes should be boiled prior to usage.

The Florida Department of Health advises that to properly remove contaminants, water should be brought to a boil for one minute, and that bottled water can be used as an alternative.

The boil-water notice is expected to remain in effect for 48 hours, or until all required water samples have been taken and the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County provides approval for rescission of the precautionary boil-water notice.
