CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Police arrested an electrician after a road rage incident trigged an alert at the University of Miami.
Police charged 27-year-old Jesse Hernandez with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana.
According to an arrest affidavit, a driver told police that he and Hernandez exchanged words while driving on U.S. 1 about 7:49 p.m. Sunday. The driver said Hernandez sideswiped his vehicle, then tried running him off the road.
Police found Hernandez's truck in the 1500 block of Levante Avenue. An alert was issued at UM after a witness said Hernandez may have been armed and was seen running toward the university.
Police took Hernandez into custody about 1:12 a.m. Monday. He told police he sideswiped the other driver's car because he was upset that driver stopped abruptly in front of him, according to the arrest affidavit.
Hernandez told detectives he drove away because he had a joint in his truck, which police later found along with a bag of marijuana, according to the arrest affidavit.
