Police in Homestead are looking for the driver of a red pickup truck that struck and killed a man who was on the ground after he was hit by another car.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, 30-year-old Leon Presley and 22-year-old Shantivia Gordon were crossing the street at State Road 5, just north of 288th Street.
A car traveling northbound struck the couple. The driver of that car got out to help the victims.
"It happened right here by the light, right here by the sidewalk. I guess he was crossing the street," said Olga Lewis. "It happened really fast."
Officers say that's when a red pickup struck Presley, who was on the ground. The driver of that pickup left the scene, police said.
"He dragged him from one end to another and that was the end of him," said Lewis.
Presley died at the scene. Gordon was taken to Homestead Hospital in critical condition.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 305-247-1535.
