MIAMI -

The Florida Highway Patrol is now questioning a driver after a hit and run crash ended with one person dead.

FHP said three people were in a Toyota Scion when it was sideswiped by another vehicle Monday in northwest Miami-Dade.  The driver lost control and the car went into a lake near Okeechobee Road and the Florida Turnpike.

Two people managed to swim to safety; however, the driver, a 50-year-old man, had to be pulled out by divers.  He was taken to Palmetto General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

FHP said an abandoned SUV was found nearby with signs of a collision.

Troopers said charges are now pending against the driver.
