1 dead, 2 injured in Miami Gardens shooting

Police investigate shooting outside Mint Lounge

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Police are investigating a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a Miami Gardens strip club.

One man, identified by family members as David Hilbert, was killed and two other people were shot outside the Mint Lounge in the 2500 block of Northwest 187th Street.

Detective Michael Wright said the two surviving shooting victims were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions weren't immediately known.

A woman who was at the club told Local 10 News that she heard "a lot" of gunshots.

The deceased victim's cousin told Local 10 News reporter Carlos Suarez that Hilbert was a security guard at the club and had broken up a fight when one of the men came back inside and opened fire.

"He was a joyful person, always smiling and happy," his cousin, Roberta Hilbert, said.

In March, a man was fatally shot after an altercation that police believe stemmed from an altercation outside the Mint Lounge. In 2010, a 34-year-old father was shot to death inside the club after getting into a fight with another man.

Local 10 News has learned the victim's identity, but police haven't notified his family.
