FHP: Diego Ramires, 30, dies while walking on highway

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ DiegoĀ Ramires' friends and family from as far as Brazil were trying to figure out how the 30-year-old musician from Hollywood ended up dead on the highway.Ā

Authorities shut down the southbound access to Interstate 595 from Interstate 95Ā in Fort Lauderdale for hours Saturday morning to investigate.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash in the area about 6:20 a.m.Ā FHPĀ foundĀ RamiresĀ dead at the scene of the crash.Ā Investigators determined he was not driving when he died, according to the FHP report.

Two vehicles hit the former South Broward High School student who served in the U.S. military. There is a possibility that a third vehicle may have hit him too, according to FHPĀ Sgt. MarkĀ Wysocky.Ā

Elizabeth A. Shuhart, 59, one of the drivers involved, told authorities thatĀ RamiresĀ was standing or walking in the roadway when she struck him with her 2006 BMW 325i.Ā

Shuhart suffered minor injures and was treated at Broward Health.

Margaret C. Sullivan, 57, was driving a 2015Ā Huyndai Veloster when she hit Ramires, after Shuhart. She wasn't injured.Ā

In the case of Shuhart and Sullivan, alcohol was not a factor, theĀ FHPĀ report said.Ā

Ramires' relatives and friends shared their shock and pain on social media.Ā

"I was just at the beach with him last weekend Sunday night," Michael Rankin said to friends on Facebook. "Didn't think that was the last time I'd see theĀ homie."

ShaniceĀ Perez, who is in a relationship with Ramires' brother David Ramires, described him as a happy and outgoing brother. She set up a GoFundMeĀ account to help his family with funeral costs.Ā

"He was always full of life and enjoying all it could offer him," Perez said.Ā
