1 in custody after boats burglarized

At least 3 boats burglarized

MIAMI – One man is in police custody after a boat burglary in Miami.

Miami police received a call about a burglary shortly before 2 a.m. Friday.

Security guards at the Rickenbacker Marina told police they noticed two men burglarizing a boat.

Police said at least three boats were burglarized.

When police arrived, they saw one man attempting to flee by jumping into the water off the Rickenbacker Causeway bridge. Police were able to apprehend the man, who they said was carrying a black duffel bag stuffed with boat parts. Police were seen lifting fingerprints from a GPS unit, among other items.

Police said they did not observe any other suspects. However, since the two security guards said they observed two men committing this crime, the U.S. Coast Guard was called to help find a second person and searched the water by helicopter. The Coast Guard has since called off their search.
