2 injured after van crashes into home in Lauderhill

Driver listed in serious condition; child inside home suffers minor injuries

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Two people were injured Tuesday after a van crashed into a home in Lauderhill, authorities said.

The crash was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. at 570 NW 33rd Ave.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue officials said the driver lost control of his van before crashing into the home.

"I was in the bedroom looking at the TV and I just heard a loud boom, like a thundering, and I jumped up and went in the house, and my daughter was screaming, and I saw smoke and I said, 'what's going on?'" Doris Striggles said. "And when I looked, I saw the truck in the house and my kids screaming."

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle for a short time before being taken to Broward Health Medical Center. The man, who is in his 70s, is listed in serious condition.

Authorities said Striggles and her three children were home when the crash occurred. One of the children suffered minor injuries.

Power lines were down in the area, causing authorities to ask the public to avoid the area.

The Red Cross is helping the family since their home has been deemed unsafe to stay in.
