1 injured when waterspout comes ashore

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – One woman was hospitalized Friday afternoon when a waterspout came ashore near the Pompano Beach Pier.

The waterspout knocked over several tents. Dozens of people were at the beach competing in a lifeguard competition at the time.

"We see all these tents like 45 feet up in the air and we couldn't even see anything. It was just so instant. It was pretty crazy," said Zach Hiller.

The woman hospitalized suffered a minor injury when the leg of a tent hit her in the back, said lifeguard Josh Vesely.
