Carlos Pildain killed, Dixiana Pildan injured

MIAMI – A 67-year-old man was killed and his wife was injured in a hit-and-run crash in southwest Miami-Dade early Tuesday morning.

A Cadillac Escalade rear-ended a Toyota Yaris at Bird Road and Southwest 97th Avenue in Kendall about 1 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Carlos Pildain, the driver of the Toyota, was killed in the crash. Dixiana Pildan, his 55-year-old wife, suffered serious injuries. She was upgraded to fair condition Tuesday afternoon.

Surveillance video from a nearby gas station showed witness running into the street.

A man who witnessed the crash tried to chase down the driver who was going westbound on Bird Road but could not keep up.

The Florida Highway Patrol later found the Cadillac Escalade (pictured above) believed to be involved in the crash. It was found at Blue Lakes Elementary.

"It has damage that may be consistent with the crash but we are still investigating," said trooper Dallani Garcia-Cruz.

No arrests have been made, she said.
