Coral Springs Fire Department officials said firefighters put on special protective gear when they searched the home and found two people inside.

Authorities said one person was uninjured and the other person was taken to Broward Health Coral Springs in serious condition.

Carbon monoxide is commonly referred to as the "invisible killer," because it is an invisible, odorless, colorless gas that is created when fuels burn incompletely.

Authorities advise homeowners to install carbon monoxide alarms on each level of a home in a central location outside each bedroom.

They also recommend that vehicles be warmed up outside a garage.

Gas and charcoal grills can also produce carbon monoxide and should be used only outside.
