Rescuers pull 10 from water off Pompano Beach after man spots trouble

5 children, 2 babies, 3 adults make it out safely after boat capsizes

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Waters were rough off Pompano Beach Wednesday, but that didn't prevent a heroic rescue.

There were two babies, five children and three adults in a 21-foot boat. Sea Tow Capt. Will Williamson saw the crowded boat, was aware of the water conditions and had a bad feeling.

He decided to follow them. As he anticipated, the boat started to take on water. When they tried to turn around at Hillsboro Inlet Park, Williamson saw it capsized. Some of the children were not wearing life vests.

Williamson was ready to help. He made an emergency call and moved as fast as he could. The Broward Sheriff's Office was at the scene and all 10 were rescued.

Firefighters tried to appease the children who were still scared with their red firefighter hats. Paramedics examined them and sent them home for Christmas Eve.

Williamson said he was happy, because these "kids are waking up tomorrow and opening presents."
