Stacey was working outside the jail as a maintenance trustee for Monroe County Public Works when he escaped, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said. His orange jail jumpsuit was found nearby.

He had been in jail since September 2014 on charges of burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief.

Sunday night, Florida City police received a tip from employees at a business that Stacey was recognized from a picture shown to them earlier in the week by police. Officers then entered the area and set up a perimeter.

Stacey was found a short time later in the 400 block of U.S. Highway 1 and was taken into custody, where he resisted arrest, police said.

He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and will be returned to Monroe County to face escape charges.
