Amazing Surgery! Doctor reattaches sawed off hand

Man With Reattached Hand Home From Hospital

POSTED: 6:04 pm EST November 27, 2006

A man whose hand was successfully reattached after he cut it off with an electric saw is home, just a week after the amazing surgery.

Able Peninero, 44, was working with the saw last Monday evening when he severed his hand. Peninero was working with a compound miter saw, also called a chop saw.

Peninero wrapped a towel around his wound while his wife wrapped his severed hand in plastic and put it on ice.

He was taken to Broward General Medical Center where surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda reattached Peninero's hand during nine hours of surgery.

According to Wigoda, the surgery was "extremely successful."

Peninero is expected to undergo about a year of rehabilitation. Wigoda said that Peninero is likely to get back most of the use of his hand.
