Seminole Tribe Of Florida Considering New Hotel

POSTED: Tuesday, January 23, 2007

Coconut Creek's largest hotel could be one built by the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

Preliminary plans filed with Coconut Creek City Hall call for a 1,500-room hotel at the casino -- with a nine-story parking garage.

The Seminoles are also asking the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs to declare the proposed 44-acre site sovereign -- which would mean the Seminoles would not have to pay taxes on the parcel.

News of the proposed hotel comes as the tribe continues work on a 32,000-square-foot expansion to its current Coconut Creek casino.

The first phase of the renovation consists of an entertainment complex with a V.I.P. area and bar.

That project is expected to be completed by spring.

As for the proposed project, a spokesman for the Seminole Tribe of Florida told Local 10 there is no timeline since the plan has yet to be approved by the city.
