11-month-old girl dies after left in van in Hialeah

Police say girl possibly in van for several hours

HIALEAH, Fla. – An 11-month-old girl died Monday after she was found in her parents' parked van in Hialeah, police said.

Sky 10 was above a home on West 86th Terrace as several police cars were parked outside.

Hialeah police Sgt. Carl Zogby said paramedics were called to the home shortly after 4 p.m. The girl was taken to Palmetto General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

It's unclear how long the girl was inside the van, but Zogby said she was possibly in there for several hours with the engine turned off.

Hialeah police said the investigation is ongoing.

No arrests have been made and Zogby said police are working closing with the Miami-Dade state attorney's office in the investigation.

The group KidsandCars.org advise that people who care for children take steps such as checking the back seat to help ensure a child isn't left in the vehicle.
