Millionaire Found Dead In Miami Hotel

President Of Windjammer Cruises Died Last Month At Biscayne Inn

POSTED: Friday, April 6, 2007

It's not the place one would expect a millionaire to turn up dead. But that's what happened to Daniel Richard Burke inside room No. 209 at the Biscayne Inn.

In an area of Biscayne Boulevard long known for prostitution and drug use, Burke's death came as a surprise to his family -- not just because of where he died, but also because they didn't know he was dead.

The president of his family's Windjammer Cruises, Burke grew up on glitzy Star Island. His most recent address was a waterfront estate off the Venetian Causeway, which is currently for sale at a listed price of $3.6 million.

Burke died the morning of March 27. He had stayed overnight at the motel with Barbara Silvetti, whom police said has a long history of drug-related arrests.

Silvetti told police Burke had been drinking, taking Xanax and using crack cocaine the night before his death.

Silvetti told Local 10 that on the day Burke died, her live-in friend, Benjamin Pace, had come to the motel to pick them up for breakfast. Pace said he attempted to deliver mouth-to-mouth when he arrived and found Burke unconscious.

When family members couldn't find Burke, they hired a private detective to help. Nine days after his death, Burke's body was claimed at the county morgue.

Burke's family said police didn't notify them about what had happened.
