FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Police said a car hit a 13-year-old girl after she ran into traffic while running from a pit bull Tuesday night.

Witnesses said friends of Shalika Scott were taunting her and threatening to sick the pit bull on her. Pernell Taylor said she ran, but the dog bit her on her neck and stomach.

A Fort Lauderdale police spokesman said Scott was taken to Broward General Medical Center to be treated for a broken leg and minor dog bites.

The pit bull, which neighbors said was owned by the mother of Scott's half-sister, was taken away by animal control.

Police said the driver of the car that hit Scott wouldn't be charged.
