POSTED: Friday, April 27, 2007

Police on Thursday arrested a man they said robbed a Hialeah sheet metal factory and then used his gun to beat a female employee.

Larry McDougal, 34, is accused of robbing Industrial Sheet Metal Inc., located at 625 W. 27th St., about 10 a.m. April 13.

Angela Murton said she was working in the office of her father's business when McDougal walked in and demanded money from her and her father's wife, co-worker Sandra Murton.

"He put the gun to my face and demanded payroll," said Angela Murton, 25.

Hialeah police said it was McDougal who was caught on surveillance video rummaging through the cash box when Angela Murton tried to grab the gun, resulting in a struggle. The man can then be seen beating her in the face with his gun.

"I got nine stitches in my lip and then I got to get dental surgery," Angela Murton said while pulling back her lip to reveal a missing tooth.

During the struggle, Sandra Murton ran outside and screamed for help from the 12 employees working in the adjacent factory. Surveillance video shows the man running from the office and workers chasing after him, but police said he got away in a waiting green Ford Thunderbird.

Angela Murton said she hadn't seen him before, but he called her by her first name.

"It had to have been an inside job," owner Russ Murton said. "Someone must have sent him here. It could have been a customer or a previous (employee) who thought we dealt with a lot of cash."
