LAUDERHILL, Fla. -- Police said a man stabbed a teenager multiple times Thursday in a dispute over a bicycle.

According to Lauderhill police, the argument began about 8 a.m. at a Food Max convenience store on Northwest 49th Avenue when a 15-year-old boy arrived on a bike and was approached by a 30-year-old man who claimed the bike belonged to him.

When the teen rode off on the bike, a woman who witnessed the dispute offered to follow him in her car and give the man a ride, police said.

Once they caught up with the teen about two blocks away in front of a home at 2210 N.W. 50th Ave., the man got out of the car and confronted the teen.

"There was a tussle or an altercation between the 15-year-old and the 30-year-old, and the juvenile wound up stabbed multiple times," Lauderhill police Lt. Mike Cochran said.

Police said the man then drove away in the woman's car, leaving her behind with the wounded teen.

The teen was airlifted to Broward General Medical Center, where he was undergoing emergency surgery. His condition was not known.

Local 10's Yvonne Nava asked the woman if she regretted helping the man, but she did not respond.

Police said the man drove away in a maroon 2000 Chevrolet Prism with Florida license plate No. I24-TWV.
