14-year-old boy hit by car in North Miami Beach

David Dessalines arrested; Charges pending

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A teenager accused of hitting a 14-year-old boy with his car while the boy was crossing the street in North Miami Beach has been arrested.

Miami-Dade police said David Dessalines, 17, struck Brayan Brito with his Honda Civic after another vehicle had stopped to allow Brito to cross at Northeast 167th Street and 14th Avenue.

Police said Dessalines then fled the scene, leaving Brito injured.

Brito was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he was listed in stable condition. Police said he suffered multiple broken bones.

Police said witnesses at the scene were able to provide officers with the Civic's license plate number, and officers tracked the car to a nearby home.

Police said Dessalines' mother allowed officers inside her home, but the teen was not there.

Charges are pending.
