TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A 15-year-old high school student was arrested for bringing a semi-automatic handgun to a school in north Florida.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office said that the ninth-grader at Leon High School brought the weapon to school on Thursday morning. He was spotted by another student who informed school authorities.

The student was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and for possessing a firearm on school grounds. Leon High officials told parents the gun was not loaded.

This is the second incident involving a student and guns in the last week in Leon County.

Last Friday a student at Florida A&M University Developmental Research School was found with a firearm in his book bag. The student, who had been threatening suicide, was taken into custody by FAMU police.
