Gas Leak At Target Construction Site Capped

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -- A natural gas line leak forced evacuations and road closures in the area of Hillsboro Boulevard and Powerline Road on Monday.A backhoe operator cut a 2-inch natural gas line at a construction site for a new Target store on the corner of Hillsboro and Powerline about 11:30 a.m., according to Deerfield Beach fire-rescue Chief Gary Fernaays.The Broward Sheriff's Office closed Powerline Road to traffic in both directions from Hillsboro Boulevard to Northwest Sixth Street.
Deputies were also assisting in the evacuation of an apartment building on the north side of the construction site.The gas leak was capped about 1 p.m. The roads were reopened and residents were allowed to return to their apartment.No injuries were reported.
