Department of Juvenile Justice says teen found in Lauderdale Lakes

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A 17-year-old girl who escaped from custody while on her way to a South Florida hospital has been caught.

Florida Department of Juvenile Justice spokeswoman Heather DiGiacomo told Local 10 News that the girl was found early Saturday morning in Lauderdale Lakes.

She escaped Friday afternoon as corrections officers were taking her to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.

Police said the inmate was handcuffed when she ran away in the hospital parking lot.

An employee at a nearby gas station told Local 10 News that the girl was seen running down Rose Drive, a block north of Davie Boulevard.

No other details were immediately released.
