Two people were taken into custody Wednesday after a methamphetamine lab was found inside an apartment in Tamarc, investigators said.
The lab was found in a first-floor unit at a 600-unit complex at 8020 Fairview Drive. The Metro Broward Drug Task Force and Broward Sheriff's Office deputies spent several hours Wednesday dismantling the lab.
Two people were taken into custody on federal drug charges.
"We had no idea that there was a meth lab in there," said Karey Raubenheimer, who works nearby. "The cops actually said it was worse than they thought. They have to remove, like, I guess, dry wall and stuff because it's actually gotten into the walls. It's extremely toxic."
Workers at the apartment management office, which is across the street, said they were suspicious for weeks that something was going on in the apartment because of the number of people going in and out, but they called police a few days ago after noticing a strong smell.
Investigators also found a sick dog in the apartment, which they took into custody for treatment.
