2 arrested in Hialeah robbery spree

Men accused of demanding cash, fleeing Hialeah businesses

HIALEAH, Fla. – Two men were arrested by Hialeah police early Thursday morning, accused in a robbery spree that targeted three retailers in less than 24 hours. 

Jose Hernandez, 26, and David Lopez, 26, were taken into custody on charges of armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed burglary.

Hialeah police say this video shows a robbery suspect demanding cash from a clerk at El Dollarazo on West Eighth Avenue.

Hialeah police spokesman Carl Zogby said Hernandez told store workers he was armed with a gun when he entered the businesses. No firearm was ever seen. 

The criminal got away with cash from El Dollarazo at 1601 W. Eighth Ave. on Tuesday afternoon, a Subway restaurant at 801 E. Eighth Ave. on Tuesday evening and a GNC at 445 Hialeah Drive on Wednesday morning. 

Police said Lopez was the getaway driver in the robberies that occurred Tuesday.

The men were taken into custody in the city of Miami.
