2 children taken to hospital after Davie crash; man killed

Police say witnesses reported seeing cars racing on Davie Road

DAVIE, Fla. ā€“ Two children were seriously injured in a Davie crash that witnesses said involved two cars that were racing, police said.

The crash was reported Sunday morning in the 3300 block of Davie Road near Broward College.

Davie police Sgt. Mark Leone said a red Mercedes-Benz and a silver Infiniti were speeding north on Davie Road when the Mercedes-Benz slammed into a van that was pulling out of a nearby restaurant parking lot.

Two "very small children" in the back of the mangled Mercedes-Benz were taken to area hospitals. Leone said the children's injuries were serious.

The driver of the van, Dominick Del Pozzo, was ejected and taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he died Sunday night. Del Pozzo owned a catering company in Broward County.

Dominick Del Pozzo was killed Jan. 22 in a crash involving teens who were racing, police say.

Leone said the driver of the Infiniti initially left the scene but later returned. He said the driver of the Mercedes-Benz remained at the scene, but he wasn't seriously injured.

"If you look at the damage done to these vehicles, you can make a determination yourself and see that that they were both driving extremely fast," Leone said.

Rebecca Thompson told Local 10 News that she witnessed the crash and began giving chest compressions to Del Pozzo. She said his airways were full of blood.

No charges have yet been filed.
