Lockdown lifted at 2 Miami school following reports of suspicious package

Highland Oaks Middle, Virginia A. Boone Highland Oaks Elementary affected

MIAMI – Two schools in Northeast Miami-Dade were placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after reports of a suspicious package in the area.

Sky 10 was above the scene just after 2:30 p.m. as numerous police, fire rescue and bomb squad units arrived at the scene.

The schools affected were Highland Oaks Middle School at 2375 NE 203rd St. and Virginia A. Boone Highland Oaks Elementary at 20500 NE 24th Ave.

Traffic on Ives Dairy Road was re-directed in both directions for about an hour as a bomb squad robot inspected the package.

Police said no explosives or threats were found inside the package and the lockdown was lifted at both schools.
